'Special Mare' Returns To Track After 19 Long Months

By Grahame Timbrell

Around 19 months ago trainer Angela Davies had confirmed what she had suspected for some time – that her Fastnet Rock mare Lindy Lou had the ability to develop into something special.

Lindy Lou had easily won a Wyong maiden on debut and was so impressive that the owner and trainer decided to press on to the 2015 Wyong Magic Millions three weeks later. She finished a creditable seventh, was sent to the paddock and has not been seen at the races since.

Lindy Lou finally resumes from her long absence by returning to Wyong on Thursday to run in the Coastal Transport Systems Benchmark 60 (1100m) after what Davies says has been one of the most frustrating times of her training career.

“We brought her back from the spell and found that tissue had grown over a fetlock and it had to be removed,” Davies said.

“She recovered from that then developed some other problems which which we had to resolve. No sooner did we get her over one problem than she developed another.

“It has been a long battle but finally everything is right and she is ready to go but then it starts raining. Fortunately she can handle a soft track. She is a lovely mare and her trial leading up to this race was really good.”

In the trial Lindy Lou finished third behind Danish Twist, beaten 2.75 lengths: “She wasn’t off the bridle either,” Davies said.

The track has been rated a heavy 10 after 40mls of rain in the last 24 hours including a storm which hit the area early on Wednesday morning. Stewards will inspect the track at 6am on Thursday.
