Sparkling Everest Trophy On Bowman's Hit List

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman declared The Everest "a mountain I'd like to climb'' as the trophy for the world's richest turf race was unveiled on Friday.

Bowman is yet to secure a ride in the $10m The TAB Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 but he left no doubt he's keen to add the winning jockey's trophy to his mantlepiece.

"There's always a new mountain to climb,'' Bowman said.

"The Everest has really put racing in NSW on the front page around the world. There's no international runners this year but it is only a matter of time before they come.''

Designed by leading luxury jeweller Cerrone, the one-of-a-kind trophy befit the unique concept of The Everest.

The winning owner's trophy, valued at $320,000, contains 230 stones of round brilliant cut diamonds, 7777 of black round diamonds and two round rubies - it's the most valuable racing trophy in the world.

A total of 924 man hours were poured into making, setting and polishing the trophy.

There are also two 3kg replica trainer and jockey trophies worth over $46,000.

Leading jockey Kerrin McEvoy rides Redzel for slot holder James Harron and the Triple Crown syndicate and said he wouldn't be swapping his mount for any other in the race.

"It's going to be a fantastic race to be a part of,'' McEvoy said.

"Redzel is an exciting horse to ride and I certainly wouldn't change my ride.''

Racing NSW chairman Russell Balding AO said Sydney's newest race is set to be an event that people around the world will want to be a part of in coming years.

He said Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club has been thrilled with the response to the unique concept and that it will only grow in years to come.

"The unprecedented amount of interest building about the race is terrific. The world will be focused on Sydney on October 14,'' he said.
