Racing Mates will partner with Illawarra Turf Club to host a BBQ get-together for racing participants at Kembla Grange’s 'Race Against Suicide' race meeting on Saturday 21st June.
The day will be dedicated to raising awareness and vital funds for mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
Local service providers will also be on-site with pop up information stands.
Mental ill-health remains high among Australians with one in two likely to experience a condition during their lifetime.
An alarming 8.6 Australians die every day by suicide, however, men are overrepresented with 75% of those who take their own life being male.
“It’s important that we check in with each other and encourage those requiring further help to seek support,” said Racing Mates Ambassador Pat Webster.
“Whether they're going through something big, something small, or maybe nothing at all, your support can help. Your conversation could change a life.”
Racing Mates will host a BBQ get-together for stable staff, jockeys, trainers and ground staff as part of the industry’s contribution to The Race Against Suicide Raceday.
Industry participants are invited to join Pat Webster and other Racing Mates Ambassadors by visiting the canteen near the raceday stalls from 11.30am on the day.
