The common thread between the two feature race winners at Randwick on Saturday, Stefi Magnetica and Attica, is the supreme performances they produced to score.
Despite some doubts due to a setback leading into the Invitation (1400m), Stefi Magnetica posted the meeting’s fastest last 600m of 33.92 and last 200m of 11.60 as she stormed to victory.
Safe to say she’s back in business and she’s a horse that tends to improve as the preparation goes on.
That last 600m was six lengths faster than runner-up Gerringong (34.89) who rode the speed while Gangsta Granny (34.75) stayed on after an early wide run for third.
Punter’s Intelligence data showed they put down the first 600m in a solid 36.02 which no doubt aided those trying to run on and adds merit to the runs of the placegetters given the leader weakened out to run ninth.
Interestingly, the second fastest last 600m was run by Dark Glitter (34.10) who ran tenth.
She had to stop and duck back to the fence late, her 400m-200m of 10.91 matched that of Stefi Magnetica but she settled last and was left with too much to do to get into the finish.

Attica’s win in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) is as good on paper as it looked to the eye.
While runner-up Shangri La Boy was cruising along up on the pace, Attica had to start his run earlier and the 800m-600m tells that tale. Attica has run 11.58 to Shangri La Boy’s 12.17 which is about four lengths faster, and that’s before the sprint went on.
The Godolphin colt had to sustain the run and he’s run 11.98 from 600m-400m then he’s run the fastest 400m-200m of 11.42 and last 200m of 12.27. His overall last 600m of 35.67 was the race’s fastest though a few behind the placings weren’t too far off that.
They are Southern Prince (35.76), Queen Of Clubs (35.75) and Within The Law (35.80) and their efforts were solid staying performances but it was Attica’s dash from the 400m-200m that stood him apart.
Chris Waller has produced a three-year-old that’s flown right under the radar in Skyglider who jumped from a maiden win in winter to take out the Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m).
He’s run the fastest last 600m of 34.34, granted he had a nice run, and was particularly strong at the finish running 11.93 for his last 200m.
He was only first-up, on debut he’d beaten Sixties and Estremo who have both trained on win Group races this season, and could develop into something well above average.
The runner-up Pallaton showed he’s getting back to form with a brave effort on speed, he sprinted the 400m-200m in a race best 11.08 but his effort wide on speed told late running 12.16 for the last 600m.
The win by Thrill Hunter in the Kirkham Plate took many by surprise and had added merit with the saddle slipping midrace.
Behind her there are two clear standouts to keep an eye on in runner-up Pearl Of Dubai and fourth placed Anthropoid.
Pearl Of Dubai ran the fastest last 600m of 34.29 while Anthropoid, who did plenty wrong early on, ran the fastest last 200m of 11.74 and second fastest last 600m of 34.34.
Fastest last 600m: Stefi Magnetica 33.92.
