Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Five Diamonds Day

Race experience came to the fore as Revengeance secured his spot in the Golden Slipper with a strong performance to score at Rosehill on Saturday.

The future looks bright for a number of the youngsters out of the $1 million Golden Gift (1100m) and it’s a mixture of having that run in the Breeders’ Plate and a favourable run in transit that saw him defy debutante Spicy Miss in the closing stages.

Punter’s Intelligence data, which unfortunately wasn’t available for every race, showed the colt ran the fastest last 600m of the Golden Gift in 33.82 which was closely followed by Spicy Miss who ran 33.89.

The filly covered an extra 2m in the run thanks to being held in a three wide spot by the winner and it was only in that final 200m the colt was able to shake her off.

Revengeance ran 11.58 for the last 200m to Spicy Miss in 11.67.

Thanks to the prizemoney on offer both horses, certainly the winner, can be prepared in the autumn knowing a Slipper run is there waiting.

It is worth respecting the run of Plagiarism on debut as well, he set the speed and boxed on to run third. The overall time of 1:03.64 was only just over a length slower than the fillies and mares ran over the same trip later in the day.

The two-year-olds put down the first 500m in 29.58 compared to 30.74, so they’ve scooted along some seven lengths faster in the early stages. That adds merit to Plagiarism’s run.

Also from a future perspective, Anthropoid backed up his solid debut by running home in 34.14 which was the third best of the race. He’s shaping as a horse who will fire at 1400m plus.

While sectionals for every race weren’t available, we can safely say Spirit Of Wealth has run the meeting’s fastest last 600m as she’s scorched home in 32.28 in the TAB Handicap (1100m).

It was two lengths faster than the winner Weeping Woman’s slick 32.59 but coming to the 600m the grey was a bit over three lengths behind her.

She’s been a bit of a problem child for the Michael Freedman stable and races currently in ear muffs but what the run showed was an improvement from her provincial win in all aspects and she can be followed with confidence. And if the ear muffs come off that’s another tick.

Given the sprint home it was hard for anything from the back to make an impact so it’s curious that Taxation has run 32.57 for her last 600m and beaten one home. The vision backs that up, she’s about the same margin from the winner the whole way to the line.

She was previously unbeaten and given she’s listed as spelling we’ll have to wait until the autumn for her.

South Australian visitor Shady Thinker wasn’t given an easy introduction to Sydney racing but he showed he could measure up with a game fifth in the Ranvet Handicap (1200m).

He’s run 33.49 for his last 600m after sitting three wide without cover throughout, his sectionals only bettered by Bartolf (33.42) who was the horse keeping him deep.

They’ve run an identical 10.93 from the 400m-200m with only 0.02 splitting them in Bartolf’s favour for the last 200m.

The winner Tuned got a lovely run up along the inside and dashed home in 33.54, he was only first-up as a gelding there too.

Things will fall into place for Bestower one day but she really is a take on trust proposition.

She’s run clearly the fastest last 600m in the Petaluma Handicap (1800m) of 34.54 but she again conceded a big start.

Fastest last 600m: Spirit Of Wealth 32.28
