Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Apollo Stakes Day

"She's come back in beautiful order and dare I say it, it will take a good one to beat her this prep."

Those were the words used by champion jockey James McDonald to describe Fangirl's brilliant win in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Punter's Intelligence recorded her sectional merit, and the five-year-old travelled well throughout transit before ambling past her rivals.

The Chris Waller-trained galloper was utterly dominant, and McDonald hardly touched the mare in the straight, but she still recorded one of the meeting's fastest final 400m splits in 22.32.

Her most likely pathway for the remainder of her campaign will be the Group 1 Verry Elleegant and the Group 1 George Ryder, with her grand final being the feature Queen Elizabeth on Day 2 of the Star Championships.

Three-year-old colt Militarize was solid in his return and was just outsprinted between the 400m-200m, but to his credit, he wanted to keep finding the line.

He ran the second-fastest final 600m of the race in 34.12 and will only improve with fitness/more ground.

Buckaroo found the line well, running the race's second-quickest final 200m in 11.65. He'll appreciate a rain-affected surface and is now in his second AUS prep.

Navajo Peak was solid after being caught wide and Cascadian had no luck at all.

Kimochi has been a model of consistency throughout her career, and she finally broke through for a well-deserved win in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).

She had every chance, but she sprinted a sharp 10.93 between the 400m-200m before maintaining a strong finishing speed to the line to hold off the late challenge.

Learning To Fly was returning from a long break, and she has come back in fantastic order.

Jockey Chad Schofield rode the filly perfectly from the wide draw, and she came out to win but just peaked on her run late.

She ran a slick 800m-200m split in 32.80, exerting all her energy through that section, and that was the race's clear fastest.

The Annabel Neasham trained runner can only step off that performance and is an adaptable type who can settle closer from a kinder draw.

Arctic Glamour was a drifter in the betting, but her run had hidden merit. She raced wide, wasn't suited to the race shape and flashed home running the entire meeting's second-fastest final 200m split in 11.46.

Switzerland firmed again in the betting for the Group 1 TAB Golden Slipper (1200m) after making it back-to-back wins.

The colt started a well-fancied favourite in the Pierro Plate (1100m), and it was a tradesman-like win.
He added another string to his bow after always facing the breeze, and he kept responding under pressure when challenged.

His last few bounds had merit, and he ran the race's quickest final 200m in 11.87, indicating a rise in the distance is ideal. Further, he's an improving type and will excel in a high-pressure race with cover.

Duvana was an eye-catching luckless run and will be suited over more ground. He had the bias against, was checked/blocked for most of the straight, but still ran the race's second fastest final 600m in 34.06.

It's worth mentioning Mad Darcey in the Midway (1000m), who flew home to run the entire meeting's quickest final 200m in 11.35.

Whinchat is flying, and he smashed the clock again, doing it on both ends, clocking 1:14.86 for his overall time. Additionally, that race rated highly relative to the day after adjustments, and the margins confirmed the quality.

Import Time Quest was another flashing light runner after having the pace of the race entirely against him. He ran the meeting's tenth fastest final 200m sectional and can go on with it now entering his second Australian prep.

Fastest last 600m: Mad Darcey 32.63
