A chance for last start Group 1 placegetter Miss Roumbini to race for $3.5 million in Sydney over the next couple of weeks is a lure co-trainer Mick Price says was too good to ignore.
The five-year-old, runner-up in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes three weeks ago, tackles the $1.5 million Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday and all going well the $2 million The Invitation (1400m) at Randwick on October 25.
“What do you do with this type of mare,’’ Price said.
“You can race in Melbourne in a Group 3 race for $300,000 or go up there and race for $1.5 million. The plan is to leave her there and run her in The Invitation.
“You’ve got to chase the money, don’t you. I would think she would run well on Saturday, she seems to handle all sorts of conditions.”
Miss Roumbini, $3.90 with TAB on Thursday, was slowly away in the Rupert Clarke and that could have cost her a Group 1 win as she charged home to be beaten three-quarters of a length by Sepals.
Price, who co-trains with Michael Kent Jnr, said she can be a bit tardy at times and it will be critical that she’s not buried back in the field around Rosehill.
In-form jockey Tommy Berry rides the mare and Price likes her middle of the field barrier.
“She doesn’t always do it, I’m sure Tommy will be aware of it, I wouldn’t want to be giving them too big a start,’’ he said.

“She can get a bit fidgety in the gates. It’d be nice to bounce, there’s a clump of horses that will go forward in that big field but if she can muster up and find some sort of possie and have a rest I’m sure she’ll finish off strongly.”
While Miss Roumbini, who cost $550,000 as a yearling and has so far earned just under $1.2 million, will be having her first Sydney start she’s no stranger to Rosehill.
After her win in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares at the Gold Coast in January she made her way to Price’s Rosehill stables prior to resuming in Melbourne.
He said the mare is a good traveller and all indications are she’s still reach her peak as a racehorse.
“We spelled her in Queensland after the Magic Millions so that’s why you see she had a prep in Sydney,’’ he said.
“Ben Elam did a good job with her there, we trialled her there and then we trialled her at Caulfield and we tried to win a Group 1 with her.
“We couldn’t quite win the Group 1 behind Sepals, she drew an average gate and got right out of her ground.
“She’s been a good horse all along. She’s only had 11 starts because she took a while for her fetlocks to mature up, which is why after the Gold Coast we gave her a good three or four months out, and they’re pretty good now.”
Meanwhile, Price said Manikato Stakes winner Charm Stone will be nominated for Saturday week’s Group 3 $2m Sydney Stakes (1200m) but could wait a week and run in the McEwen at Moonee Valley.
