Past Three Wins: Silver Slipper Stakes

By Brad Gray

All eyes will be on speedster She Will Reign in Saturday's edition of the Silver Slipper Stakes but let's take a couple of minutes to relive the wins of three recent winners.

John Hawkes has trained seven Silver Slipper winners and the last three years has been kind to Team Hawkes with Headwater and Mossfun adding themselves to the tally.

ASTERN (2016)

Astern took out last year's Silver Slipper doing the right thing by the punters at the very short $1.50 quote. Hugh Bowman left nothing to chance with a positive ride and a tradesmanlike display saw him prevail over Defcon. From here, he went on to fail in the Golden Slipper.

HEADWATER (2015)

The highly-spruiked Headwater delivered in a big way in the Silver Slipper, trouncing his seven rivals with still plenty left in the tank. From there he proved no match for Vanvcouver who beat him comfortably in the Todman and the Golden Slipper.

MOSSFUN (2014)

Mossfun was impressive in the Widden Stakes and made it three from three when winning the Silver Slipper from the front. She was subsequently no match for Earthquake in the Reisling before turning the tables on a wet track in the Golden Slipper.
