Outcome Of Appeals - Jockeys Mathew Cahill & Jason Collett

Mathew Cahill

Licensed Jockey Mathew Cahill lodged an Appeal against conviction and penalty after being found guilty by the Stewards under AR137(a) after his ride on Philip in Race 2 (Tony Miller Windscreen Peak Hill Road Class 2 Plate 800m) at Parkes Racecourse on Thursday, 31 January 2019.

Following a Stewards inquiry Mr Cahill was suspended for a period commencing Sunday, 10 February and to expire on Sunday, 24 February 2019 on which day he may ride. This Appeal was heard on Friday, 8 February 2019 commencing at 9.00am.

The Panel have given the following orders:
1. Appeal against finding of breach of AR137(a) dismissed.
2. Finding of breach of AR137(a) confirmed
3. Appeal against severity of penalty allowed
4. In lieu of a 7 meeting suspension, a penalty of a 3 meeting suspension is imposed such suspension to commence on February 12 and to expire on February 19 2019 on which day he may ride
5. Appeal deposit to be refunded

Jason Collett

Licensed Jockey Jason Collett lodged an Appeal against conviction and penalty after being found guilty by the Stewards under AR137(a) after his ride on Pamela in Race 8 (Mullet Creek Mile Benchmark 64 Handicap 1600m) at Kembla Grange Racecourse on Tuesday, 5 February 2019.

Following a Stewards inquiry Mr Collett was suspended for a period commencing Sunday, 10 February and to expire on Thursday, 21 February 2019 on which day he may ride. This Appeal was heard on Friday, 8 February 2019 commencing at 10.30am.

The panel gave the following orders:
1. Appeal against finding of breach AR137(a) dismissed
2. Finding of breach of AR137(a) confirmed
3. Appeal against severity of penalty dismissed
4. Penalty of a six meeting suspension confirmed
5. Appeal deposit forfeited.
