New Charity For NSWROA’s Racing’s Night Of Champions

NSW Racehorse Owners’ Association has announced a new charity for its flagship event, Racing’s Night of Champions, to be held on August 15, 2019.

The charity is Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA), an organisation with particular relevance to the racing industry, with jockeys, track riders and ground staff vulnerable to incurring devastating spinal injuries.

Tye Angland is one such racing identity who has recently suffered a permanent, life-changing spinal injury after a fall in Hong Kong.  Tye is currently receiving rehabilitation and ongoing peer support through SCIA. He has welcomed news of the partnership between the NSW Racehorse Owners’ Association and Spinal Cord Injuries Australia to raise funds for its ongoing work.

“Spinal Cord Injuries Australia has played a big part in my life since returning to Sydney,” Tye commented. “The SCIA Peer Support Team members have suffered spinal cord injury themselves and they are providing great practical experience during my ongoing rehabilitation.

" It’s helping me with every aspect of the huge mental and physical adjustment involved.

Tye Angland: “Spinal Cord Injuries Australia has played a big part in my life since returning to Sydney.”

“I’m really pleased that the NSW Racehorse Owners’ Association has invited SCIA to be their charity of choice for the 2019 Racing’s Night of Champions.”

Spinal Cord Injuries Australia is a ‘for purpose’ organisation, established over fifty years ago. It provides a range of services to help people lead more independent lives, including Peer Support, Information, Accommodation, Advocacy, NDIS Support, Social Enterprise, Employment and Exercise Rehabilitation.

SCIA has over 2,000 members and one-third of its staff live with disability and two-thirds of the SCIA Board also have lived-experience of spinal cord injury.

Racing’s Night of Champions, which is a beacon on the social calendars of the racing fraternity in New South Wales, will be held in the Royal Randwick Ballroom on Thursday, 15 August 2019.

It is anticipated that strong industry support for the new charity will attract a full house. For advance bookings or more information, please contact Jane Henning at NSWROA on 0421 353 871 or email - owners@nswroa.com.au
