Providence has gone back to the trials after failing in a Group 3. 6. Nordic Viking who finished right on the heels of Condone in that Canterbury race three weeks ago after being held up at a vital stage is a knockout chance. Progressed through to Group 1 company as a two-year-old, although well outclassed. 4. Cool Rupert ran way above his long price on debut at Kembla rattling home to be beaten under a length, and while this is harder, he's again well over the mark at long odds.

9. Perfect Apple is a key market watch and looms as the one to beat returning for only his second start for the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton yard. Made up ground on debut behind high class Autumn Boy, and comes off two smart trial wins. 1. Chicama is a talented colt who looks ready to go first-up at good odds off two forward trials. 8. Onmalone is drawn to park right behind the speed, with blinkers replacing winkers. 2. Green Spring also returns behind two progressive trials. 3. Beechworth resuming off two trials draws wide. 5. Cosmonaut, a stablemate of the top selection, can run into the minor money second-up. 6. I Am Adonis has been given plenty of time since a a plain debut in autumn, and stretched out nicely to bolt in a recent trial. 4. Clanwilliam debuts for the David Payne yard after winning both lead-up trials over 1030m, and can run a big race at even bigger odds.

1. Mergeila is a promising four-year-old from the leading stable who can go back to back second-up and claim a third win from just five starts. Rounded them up easily in heavy going at Canterbury, and carries the same weight after the new jockey’s 3kg claim. Cruised home as a hot favourite last spring on firm ground proving he can adapt to any conditions, and was scratched from a race later on the program to run in fillies and mares company. 9. Snitzel Dancer was strong on debut tracking the speed before pulling around and going home best. Tougher here, but she draws to get a soft run in behind. 3. So You Pence stuck on well when resuming in this grade; while 4. Full Hao resuming off two trials, and 5. Rapbidash who chased home the top selection first-up off a lengthy break and then pulled up with the thumps; can both be included in trifecta and first four plays.

9. Sting In The Tail is bursting to win another race after striking all sorts of trouble in the straight at Canterbury a fortnight back. Should have won that day, and previously had charged home to miss narrowly in consecutive outings against similar opposition. Naturally hard fit, drawn to get cover, and she just needs a clear crack at them from the 400m. 10. San Giovanni will be hard to hold out from the inside draw settling closer, coming back from much deeper Saturday Group 3 company where he was forced a long way back from a wide gate. 7. United Kingdom is progressive, and also knocking on the door rising in trip third-up. 4. Luskaire shoots for a third straight win, but more depth here, and this time he’ll have to get over from a wide draw. 11. Precinct steps up from consecutive wins in weaker class, but drawn to get a handy run on speed.

1. Mawjood is an improving four-year-old, well placed to peak second-up over 150m further. Progressed nicely last campaign from a domiannt win at this level to being beat just over 3 lengths at Listed grade. Worked home okay when resuming in heavy going, but with extra fitness reaches his ideal journey now back on top of the ground. 7. Sarrismo is promising and the clear threat coming off a near four length romp in CL1 company at the provincials. Keep safe 6. Pony Soprano, a tough country sprinter who draws the fence, and was only run down late second-up in a strong CL3 Highway. Gap to the rest headed by 3. Forecaster, a provincial-based six-year-old resuming off two progressive trials, and two of his three career wins have come fresh.

How to play it: Mawjood to win

9. Burma Star is a smart colt on the rise for the leading trainer-jockey combination. Tracked the speed before missing by a neck two starts ago, then ridden a bit quieter before surging home to claim his maiden in heavy ground by four lengths. More than capable of stepping up to this level where there isn’t a lot of depth, and has been kept ticking over at the trials. 6. Theblade is lightly raced with plenty of ability. Reloads six weeks after running home late in a handy CL3 at Doomben, and tackled better races than this earlier in the year. Gap to the rest headed by 8. Golden Straand who draws to get an economical run just off the speed second-up. 1. Midnight Dynamite second-up over 100m further, and 7. Jacob’s Ladder who swept home to easily win a weaker class race second-up at Kembla; can figure in the money.
