Licensed Trainer John Thompson Fined $1500

Racing NSW Stewards today conducted an inquiry relative to the conduct of licensed trainer John Thompson, prior to the running of heat 15 at the Randwick barrier trials conducted on 16 February 2017.

Evidence today was taken from Mr Thompson, Stipendiary Steward Troy Vassallo and Trainee Stewards Mr I. Grimes and Mr T. North.

Mr Thompson was found guilty of a charge under AR175(j) of having engaged in improper and insulting behaviour directed at Stipendiary Steward Mr Tom Moxon relative to his duties at the said barrier trials.

Having regard to relevant considerations in respect to penalty, including Mr Thompson’s clean record during 27 years involvement in the industry, he was fined the sum of $1500. Mr Thompson was advised of his rights of appeal.

Relevant Rule AR 175. The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise;

(j) Any person guilty of improper or insulting behaviour at any time towards the Principal Racing Authority, the Committee of any Club or Association, or Stewards, or any official or employee of the Principal Racing Authority, Club or Association, in relation to their or his duties.
