Jockey Quotes - Rosehill Guineas

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the G1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) at Rosehill.

Tommy Berry (Mo'unga): “I knew Sky Lab would take me somewhere into the race, I just had to pop a bit earlier than I would’ve liked because I had a horse outside of me that wasn’t going that well but going well enough to keep me there if he wanted."

“He’s just such a good colt this bloke, he can go on to a Derby because he had to cover a fair bit of ground then.

"I reckon if Annabel trains him to run a Derby then he’ll run it, but if she freshens him up (for a Doncaster) we saw how effective he was over the mile last start."

Brenton Avdulla (Lion's Roar): “I was happy with him. He just wasn’t as effective I don’t think on that ground. I know he has a heavy win on that ground. He is much more explosive for me on top of the ground.”

Noel Callow (Lunar Fox): “He was having a really good run in the race. He got in from an ordinary gate and was having a good run fourth, having raced the older horses. Got to the 500m and came off the bit as he did at Moonee Valley but he went from that to gone. To his credit he whacked away.”

Tim Clark (Milford): “Had a lovely run but just lost his way on the turn.”

Mark Zahra (Grandslam): No comment.

Hugh Bowman (Wheelhouse): “I was delighted with his effort.”

Nash Rawiller (The Elanora): “I thought we had a chance to win the race at the 300m but he just peaked on his run.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Khoekhoe): “He was a little bit fresh in himself. He got into a prominent spot quite easily. I was happy with how he travelled. It meant we were the first ones challenging.”

Craig Williams (Bucharest): “We didn’t get to see the best of his performance against these A-graders today due to the track. He’s not comfortable to travel on this ground.”

James McDonald (Sky Lab): “He’s going to be a good Derby horse.”

Tom Marquand (Here To Shock): “He got a pretty average trip around. Well below par run though.”

Robbie Dolan (The Cullinan): “Just out of his grade I reckon.”

Rachel King (Kobestar): “Just a bit outclassed.”

Jason Collett (Montefilia): “Great run.”
