Jockey Quotes - Provincial Championships Final

"She's a winner," beamed racecaller Luke Marlow after Serene Miss took out the $500,000 Polytrack Provincial Final (1400m) making it six wins from seven starts.

Find out what the beaten jockeys made of their mounts.

Jason Collett (Serene Miss): “She’s got a great attitude, just mentally, 1400m first time, no worries, it was very easy in the end.”

“I came off the back of the stablemate and I hit the side wind at the top of the straight and thought oh wow, but she powered over the top of rise and the rest was history.”

Hugh Bowman (Just Dreaming): “She ran her race. No excuses, the winner was too good.”

Winona Costin (Old Man Sam): “He had a nice run throughout. When the gap eventually came he just wasn’t going good enough to take it.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Bastia): “He didn’t jump great. We were back in the ruck and getting held up from the half mile to the 400m. He stayed on okay after that.”

Blake Shinn (Bon Amis): “The horse ran really bravely. He didn’t get the right run in transit but stuck on very well. I’m disappointed with the outcome.”

Robert Thompson (Plaisir): “He went super. I wish it would have been 1500m today. He ran out of his skin.”

Glyn Schofield (Kool Vinnie): “He ran a good race. He just had no room in the straight.”

Brenton Avdulla (Tawfiq Boy): “I didn’t want to press forward and be outside of the leader so I tried to come back one spot. I didn’t though and he probably ran out of class halfway up.”

Chad Lever (Pomelo): “She went well. The wide gate wa against her. I’ve said to connections she is better with a bit of give in the ground. She can run the same sectionals on a wet track as she can on a good track. Hopefully they can find a wet track for her and keep her back to six furlongs.”

Damien Oliver (Princess Posh): “She’s not stretching out on those firms tracks.”

Craig Williams (Mandylion): “I was really happy with her run. She’s a three-year-old filly up against older, more seasoned horses. They are the A-grades and I thought she acquit herself quite well.”

Andrew Adkins (Newsfan): “He was unlucky. He probably got a bit keen stepping up to the 1400m. With any luck he probably wins.”

Tim Clark (Witches): “I had a nice run but I never actually got off the bridle up the straight. I’m not sure how close she would have finished but it was a bit of a nightmare.”

Damian Lane (Hallelujah Boy): “He ran great. The pace wasn’t strong enough for him so it made for a really messy race. When he got some room late he really hit the line.”

Jay Ford (It's So Obvious): “Disappointing.”
