Jockey Quotes - Parramatta Cup

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $250,000 Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Ashley Morgan (Our Anchorage): “It's working out well, we've put in a lot of hard work for the last four or five years to try and get these opportunities and it's usually in the off-season in the winter. We knock off a few winners and then we disappear back after that.

“But I feel like this time I'm really getting a good run on. I feel like I'm riding well, I'm getting great support off trainers like Bjorn, Ciaron and Nathan, so just making most of these opportunities while I can.

“It was great, Bjorn and Luke and the whole team really just said to me - Look, if you can give him an easy early to middle, you can really put your foot down from the 600m and I was able to do that.

“Palmetto was there to beat us and he kept having a dig. He was very strong.”

Our Anchorage wins the Parramatta Cup

Tim Clark (Palmetto): “He is going terrific. Had a lovely run, presented like the winner but the 2.5kg was the difference in the end.”

Reece Jones (Kinesiology): “Done a really good job. Stepping up to 1900m and just buffeted up the straight.”

Jason Collett (Circle Of Fire): “Lovely run. Left flat footed but good through the line.”

Ronan Whelan (Athabascan): “Delighted with him. We were out the back in a slowly run race. He is a horse that wants further. I was delighted the way he finished up the straight. He had a nice good blow as well. He will improve plenty for it.”

Josh Parr (Asterix): “I liked his performance. Onwards and upwards from him.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Francesco Guardi): “I thought he has come back well. Obviously a distance short of his best. We were in a nice rhythm. Nice and relaxed. Momentum got halted at the 8/900m as we were starting to build.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Zechariah): “He was first up and found it hard given the slow tempo. His run was respectable. Improvement to come from him second and third run for sure.”

Tom Sherry (Redstone Well): “Ran really well. Just got tired late.”

Alysha Collett (Manzoice): “Looked really strong through the line in a muddling run race. He tracked up lovely and was strong through the line.”

Jay Ford (Don Diego De Vega): “Had a nice run. Travelled well. Disappointing in the end.”

Zac Lloyd (Waltham): “I’d like to see him draw a gate to put him into a race because he is just following the pack around at the moment.”

Tyler Schiller (Foujita San): “I thought he was pretty much home at the 300m. Just didn’t want to do it late. He got past the third horse who has come back and beaten him. I thought he had the right run in transit. Just a bit weak the last 100m.”
