Jockey Quotes - Magic Night Stakes

Does Tony McEvoy have one hand on his first Golden Slipper trophy? CLassy filly Sunlight firmed as favourite after her all the way win on Saturday.

Find out what the jockeys made of their runs in the Group 3 Canadian Club Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Luke Currie (Sunlight): “She was good today. She was really quick early. Even a little bit keen so hopefully that run takes the edge off her for next week. She did need it because she was getting tired late.

“(Setsuna) definitely made us work. She was that little bit keen today. On that back up last time in the Magic Millions, she was happy to come back off that leader when it went with her.

“She seems to thrive with racing. Tony (McEvoy) got the key to her early and worked her out pretty quick. She’s been up here for a while now. She put on a bit of weight after the Magic Millions. She’s a bit like her jockey in the fact she can put weight on pretty quick. This run will tighten her up for next week.”

Sunlight does it easily in the Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill Gardens

Tye Angland (Cristobal): “Really good run, would have liked to have been a pair closer but she just would have been out of her comfort zone. To her credit she hit the line very well.”

Brenton Avdulla (Sweet Ava): “She ran as well as she could, the winkers definitely helped her, she jumped, she travelled comfortably but the winner was too good for her.”

Tim Clark (Secret Lady): “Really good run considering she came her a little bit underdone.”

Glyn Schofield (Perfect Pitch): “She chased the speed but she didn’t have a great deal of that, but she finished off nicely.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Futooh): “Went back from the gate but she picked up really well. Her closing splits would have been very good. Blinkers have helped her, 1400m suits next.”

Christian Reith (Into The Abyss): “She’s probably had enough now and will probably go for a spell.”

Josh Parr (Lilith): “Slightly outclassed today.”

Corey Brown (Terminology): “She was a little bit disappointing, she went a little hard within herself. She’s probably not quite up to them at this point.”

Stephen Baster (Setsuna): “She was disappointing, she didn’t feel right in her action.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Kara's Hope): “She went well.”
