Jockey Quotes - Hobartville Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $400,000 Petaluma Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Tommy Berry (Anamoe): “We thought if he could jump well enough we’d be able to follow Ranch Hand across. I thought I might be behind Ranch Hand not outside of him but I put a bit of pressure on Kerrin to go to the fence and it worked in our favour.

“He gives you a bit of a false feeling, coming to the corner and even when I cruised up I felt like he was going to take a bit of hard work to get the job done. When I gave him a smack around the bum he really took off and I got there way too early on him. I guess that is just the beauty of riding colts like this and knowing how they feel. Obviously James knows him like the back of his hand. It is nice to get on horses like that, that is for sure.

“I put them away but he got a little bit lost. I didn’t even know Hilal was coming up the fence. The only reason I know was because I felt him pick up for me again. We could have gone another 100m and there was no one getting past me. If I get the chance to ride him again, I’ll wait a little bit longer.”

Anamoe wins the Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill

William Pike (Hilal): “Good run.”

Tim Clark (Converge): “Excellent run. He’s on track.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Ranch Hand): “Nice run. Beaten by two nice horses and he’s going to improve off that.”

Brock Ryan (Royalzel): “They are a bit sharp for him.”

Keagan Latham (Raging Bull): “Good effort. He’s obviously a staying horse. I think he’s in for a nice prep over further.”

Josh Parr (Maurice's Medad): “He’s doing well in unsuitable races at the moment.”

Regan Bayliss (Silent Impact): “It was a creditable run without winning.”

Sam Clipperton (Subterranean): “Tried to ride him a bit further forward and it didn’t pay off.”

Jason Collett (Kiss Sum): “Good run. He’s running well but just that tier below.”

Brenton Avdulla (Flying Crazy): “He ran alright. Probably looking to go back in grade and back in trip a fraction.”
