Jockey Quotes (Gloaming Stakes)

Find out what the beaten jockeys made of their runs in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Ace High leads all the way

Tye Angland (Ace High, 1st): “I thought I had an easy enough time in front, I knew I was going to get attacked but when Tommy came at me it really picked my horse up because when he got to the front he really switched off. It probably helped me, it got the bit back in his mouth. When I got to the corner I let him slide, gave him a good dig, and he responded well. To his credit when Hugh (aboard Sanctioned) came at me my fellow just kept fighting. It was a good solid win. He’s pretty confident within himself so this win should really bring him right on.”

Hugh Bowman (Sanctioned, 2nd): “I was very proud of him today, he was beaten fair and square, but his manners were much better and I thought his run had merit.”

Brenton Avdulla (Coral Coast, 3rd): “Went terrific, ended up outside the speed early and she just wasn’t tracking well, I was going to run nowhere on the corner and it wasn’t until I went back to the inside and followed the first two through she picked up well to the line.”

Corey Brown (Sully, 4th): “Ran well enough, he was very one-paced and didn’t travel in the race. He never really hit the line but he whacked away, he’s obviously looking for further.”

Josh Parr (Astoria, 5th): “Nice big horse, just not quite ready for a stop, start performance like today.”

Mark Zahra (Badge Of Gameness, 6th): “Went okay, still immature.’’

Kerrin McEvoy (Augustus, 7th): “He got back and was a bit one-paced coming home, he needs a bit more tempo on.”

Jason Collett (Colesburg, 8th): “Found the line nicely.’’ Tim Clark (Coulthard, 9th): “Got himself a little worked up today, had a trouble free run but wasn’t quite up to the class.”

Tommy Berry (All Day, 10th): “Just went way too keen up in trip with the slow tempo, so just forget about the run.” Blake Shinn (Thy Kingdom Come, 11th): “He was disappointing, he didn’t hit the line as well as I expected from the top of the straight.”
