Jockey Quotes - Gimcrack Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $250,000 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

Tommy Berry (Manaal): “She bounced really well and I actually sent Michael Freedman (trainer) a message last night and said ‘Is she alright?’ She kept blowing in the market but we knew she just had so much improvement coming out of the first trial. All of Michael’s do, but full credit to the team. Gee, Michael has a good team this year, I can’t wait.

“I promised I wouldn’t get emotional and then these guys come along (hugs children). It’s been a long road ahead, I learnt so much about myself while I was off. Built such a good relationship with my kids, it’s just made me come into racing with a new lease on life, a new way of looking at things.

“There are so many people that I thank. My comeback, my family, my friends, my manager Paul Joice for sticking with me. I gave him hell these last six months. Dad at home, I love you mate.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Celestial Bling): “She raced well and did everything we thought she would do. Unlucky not to get the breaks. If she gets the breaks she wins quite convincingly.”

Ryan Maloney (Repose): “Probably cost herself the win. She wanted to overdo it but to her credit I still had a horse at the furlong but just veered out under pressure and cost herself.”

Tim Clark (Alinea): “She ran a terrific race.”

John Allen (Erno's Cube): “She was OK. Might have wanted to overdo it a little bit early.”

Sam Clipperton (Invincible Madison): “She didn’t handle the occasion well.”

James McDonald (Lady Of Camelot): “She wasn’t the best to begin, she broke a little bit awkwardly. Endured a three wide line and raced a bit green late in the piece.”

Regan Bayliss (Lady Tassort): “Just didn’t have that third gear today when I asked her. She just needs to mature up a little bit and she’ll be a nice filly.”

Kathy O'Hara (Totoka): “Good for further later on. Probably a better later 2yo/3yo type.”

Chad Schofield (Umabett): “Nice debut. She wasn’t beaten far.”
