Jockey Quotes - Chairman's Quality

Kiwi stayer Sir Charles Road, coming back off running sixth in the Auckland Cup over two miles, proved too tough for Ventura Storm after the duo paired off to fight out the G2 Schweppes Chairman's Quality (2600m).

Blake Shinn (Sir Charles Road): “Today was a marvellous staying performance, he relaxed lovely and I was able to get out at the right time. Once challenged he really dug deep, it was a really strong effort.”

Mark Zahra (Ventura Storm): “He ran super, weight just found him out that last bit.”

Damian Lane (Master Of Arts): “I thought he ran credible under the big weight, he just over-raced through the first half which just cost him finishing off the race.”

Michael Dee (Zacada): “We were back last in the running and made up a lot of ground from the 600m to the 400m, I think it was pretty good run heading into next week.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Alward): “A few bumps in the run early just had him a bit lit up, I would have liked him to settle better, he presented at the top of the lane and then probably just didn’t run the trip out.”

Jason Collett (Admiral Jello): “Did a bit of work to get across, probably told late, it wasn’t a bad run really.”

Sam Clipperton (Peribsen): “Ran terrific, little bit further back than I thought, but he was just a bit sluggish out of the gates and I had to just ease him back quickly, got a nice run through from the 600m and he hit the line strong.”

Tim Clark (Imperial Aviator): “The grounds probably a bit fast for him, he’ll be a better horse in the Winter.”

Craig Williams (Ormito): “I was really impressed with his run, we got shuffled back further than I thought we would position in the run. I thought under the circumstances his run was excellent, all going well he’s going to be ultra competitive next week in the Sydney Cup.”

Kathy O'hara (Wheal Leisure): “Couldn’t really get her to switch off early, she wanted to pull at times when the pace slackened and just plugged evenly home.”

Craig Newitt (Doukhan): “I thought he went terrific, got right back and got held up a bit round the corner but hit the line really well and could be a knockout chance next week.”

Anthony Darmanin (Up Cups): “Race a little bit too strong, I think he needs a heavy track.”

Rachel King (Domed): “Had a tough run the whole way.”
