Jockey Quotes - Callander-Presnell

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $1 million TAB Callander-Presnell (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Hugh Bowman (Golden Mile): “He has shown it all prep, he has been a model of consistency. He showed what he’s capable of with a dominant win in what would appear to be a pretty strong Caulfield Guineas this year.

"With the invention of this wonderful race, this Callander-Presnell race, it’s given James Cummings and the Godolphin team an option to come up here and race for huge prizemoney with what is already a very valuable colt. To get the opportunity to ride him is an honour and he didn’t let anybody down.

“I was full of running. I just felt Basquiat stepped into my line slightly but because my horse had plenty of gas left and because I hadn’t asked him for any effort at that stage, he was able to cope with that slight bit of bumping and balance up and win with some authority.”

Blake Shinn (Communist): “Brave in defeat. Winner was too good on the day but very promising horse going forward.”

Brenton Avdulla (A Lot More Love): “She raced really well. Wasn’t blessed with much room at the top of the straight but she knuckled down late and no doubt she’ll win more races in time.”

Regan Bayliss (Brosnan): “Just that ground is a little bit shifty on top. He just couldn’t get his foot in. Didn’t have any confidence in it.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Basquiat): “Just didn’t enjoy the ground.”

Jason Collett (Flag Of Honour): “Tracked the winner but just wasn’t able to go.”

Josh Parr (Burgunder): “The blinkers had an adverse effect. He went too keen in front.”

Keagan Latham (Token Capitalist): “Huge effort. The most inexperienced horse in the race. I thought he’d be a nice horse in the Autumn.”

Rachel King (Field Commander): “Just a bit outpaced today.”

Sam Clipperton (Monastery): “Ran a really honest race in far stronger grade. He’s gone well enough to suggest he’ll win more races.”
