Jockey Quotes - Apollo Stakes

Was it ever in doubt? Winx put her rivals away to win her 30th straight race in the G2 Apollo Stakes but the seven rivals behind her also look set for big autumn carnivals themselves.

Hugh Bowman (Winx) -"She was in pure control from the 600m when the pressure started to build, as we've seen over the distance previously she can be left a bit flatfooted but because of the even pace of the race, it wasn't the case today."

Sam Clipperton (Happy Clapper) - "It was a cracking run, his usual honest effort and if it wasn’t for Winx he’d be Australia’s champ. I didn’t feel her until when she got to me because Clapper was quickening that fast. She is just in another world."

Brenton Avdulla (Egg Tart) - "She went terrific, happy with that first up."

Sam Weatherly (Patrick Erin) - "He has come back super this horse. The way he went through the line was very strong and he was the last horse to pull up - it took a lot of effort to pull him up. An extra 1800m is going to be right up his alley, they ran along and got him off the bridle but to his credit he stuck on really well."

Kerrin McEvoy (Unforgotten) - “She ran well, will improve plenty with the run and needs further.”

Glyn Schofield (Tom Melbourne) - "He led by default, but didn’t really find much."

Tim Clark (Aloisia) - "It was just a pass mark."

Jay Ford (Brimham Rocks) - "He just found them way too sharp. He has never resumed at seven furlongs so was off the bit the entire way."
