Jockey Andrew Gibbons has suffered an injury to his right foot after an incident in race 5 at Cessnock on Monday (25th September). Andrew’s mount (Rubel) was startled during the run home and jumped, becoming unbalanced and making contact with the running rails. The pair finished the race in 8th place after leading for most of the race.

After receiving treatment from ambulance officers on course, Andrew’s parents have collected him and will take him to Maitland Hospital for further treatment.

Update on Tuesday, 26th September: Andrew has broken two toes and has a compound fracture to his right foot. Racing NSW’s Dr Duckworth reported Andrew will be operated on possibly Tuesday night by Ed O’Leary at Hornsby.
