A Lock To Bring Up Hattrick

By Brad Gray

Interlocuter’s short career certainly hasn’t been without incident.

The now five-year-old import, who arrived at Agnes Banks a two-start maiden winner, has won four of his six outings in Australia. His two defeats being a luckless second on his first outing at Newcastle and being on the wrong side of an upheld protest with Wayanka’s connections successfully having the result overturned in the steward’s room.

Tye Angland maintains his association with Interlocuter

Then there was the Scone victory, where Lautaro, despite being first past the post, was subsequently disqualified after returning a positive swab.

Fortunately for Godolphin, Interlocuter’s last two starts have gone off without a hitch and head trainer James Cummings is bullish that Interlocuter will bring up a hattrick on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens when he takes his place in the $100,000 November Topaz (1900m).

“He’s now won four races in Australia and has been very genuine and very strong. I expect him to continue in that style in what looks a good race for him,” said Cummings.

“He’s performed beautifully in three runs this preparation.”

Cummings has intentionally spaced the runs of the son of Medaglia d’Oro and replicates the three week gap which saw him maintain his winning ways last start at Royal Randwick.

“Since his last win he’s had a relatively easy time, but he worked really strongly on Tuesday and will be ready for this,” Cummings said.

Tye Angland, who has ridden 10 winners from 26 rides for James Cummings this racing season (and placing in a further nine), will maintain his association with Interlocuter, having ridden him in his last five starts.

TAB Fixed Odds opened Interlocuter at $1.80 before easing his price out to $1.95.

“Interlocuter has been a nightmare result for us at his past two starts,” TAB’s Andrew Georgiou said.

“He is one of those horses that always seems to attract more than his fair share of support whenever he goes around, no matter the price. Our customers are already using him as an anchor for their multis heading into the weekend.”
