Gosford's track manager Stephen Scollard declared the track's surface has improved significantly ahead of the club’s feature Belle Of The Turf Day meeting on Sunday week.
The Gosford course underwent a rebuild from about the 600m mark to beyond the finishing post last year to increase the camber of the home turn to make for a fairer racing circuit for horses running on from the back of the field.
Like most redevelopments, there were some teething issues when the club returned to racing earlier this year but further renovations in September this year has the track in great order ahead of the Belle Of The Turf Day meeting on December 28.
“Since we’ve done the (September) renovations it has certainly evened out and raced pretty well,” Scollard said.
“We took the organic matter off the top of the track and put numerous sand slits in to link up with the existing drainage that was there and to bring it more in line with the new section of the track.
“The jockeys can’t spot the different now (between the new part and original part of the track) where it was noticeable before September.
“The track is performing well and recovering well and we’re happy with it. We have nice conditions for growing kikuyu at the moment. I’m very confident (the latest renovations) have improved the track significantly.”
Gosford Race Club chief executive Daniel Lacey said the fruits of the redevelopment are starting to show: "We undertook the camber project to allow for more competitive racing and allow horses to commence their run in the turn," Lacey said.
"Since reopening and post the extensive spring renovation, we have seen two track records broken and a noticeable difference in horses winning from wider track positions.”
