Golden Edge To San Domenico Stars On Saturday (Kembla)

A crack field of three-year-olds clash this Saturday ahead of the Sydney Spring Carnival as Kembla Grange hosts a big 10-race card under stringent ongoing COVID protocols.

The Group 3 $160,000 XXXX San Domenico Stakes has attracted among the best three-year-olds in Australia as many also head on pathways to the $1 million Golden Rose Stakes next month and a possible slot in the world’s richest race on turf the $15 million TAB Everest in October.

Saturday’s race sees the return of Longines Golden Slipper Winner Stay Inside, trained by Michael and Richard Freedman and ridden by Tommy Berry, who was posted a $2.30 TAB favourite when fields were finalised.

Stay Inside is one colt who has already been mentioned as a TAB Everest contender. Everest slot holder Godolphin’s Paulele (James Cummings and James McDonald) and Remarque (Hawkes Racing and Regan Bayliss) were next in early TAB betting at $3.60 and $4.80 respectively.

Paulele was a brilliant first-up winner of the Rosebud whilst Remarque, another colt who is being touted as TAB Everest player, was an unlucky third in the same race.

The XXXX San Domenico also features In The Congo (trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and jockey Tim Clark) at $10 TAB, and visiting Kiwi galloper Sword Of State at $12.

The Snitzel colt trained by Jamie Richards and to be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy has won three of his four starts including a last start Group 1 victory at Ellerslie. The Group 3 $160,000 The Agency Illawarra Premier’s Cup and Group 3 $160,000 Fujitsu General Ming Dynasty add further black-type to Saturday’s card.

Saturday’s meeting at Kembla Grange remains closed to spectators under the ongoing NSW Public Health Orders and stay at home restrictions. The meeting was transferred from Rosehill Gardens and will be hosted by Illawarra Turf Club this Saturday.

Illawarra Turf Club Chief Executive, Peter De Vries said: “Our Club is proud to assist the NSW racing industry to conduct this race meeting with only essential personnel allowed on course.

"We also thank and send best wishes to the Goulburn and District Racing Club for playing its part in hosting a Saturday meeting set down for Kembla Grange."

Saturday’s feature Kembla Grange meeting will be covered live through SKY Thoroughbred Central, SKY Racing 1 and on TAB and SKY Racing Active accounts. For all racing, general and ticketing information for the upcoming Sydney Spring Carnival go to TheRaces.com.au
