Fireman Warming To His Work For Tash Burleigh

Goulburn trainer Tash Burleigh has only had gelding Fireman Sam I Am for one start but she believes he is more than capable of lighting up the track for his new stable at Nowra on Tuesday.

Fireman Sam I Am stepped out for Burleigh at Goulburn on the 18th September for the first time and was only getting warm late over 1300m when finishing midfield beaten less than two lengths. That was the I Am Invincible gelding's first run in almost five weeks after the horse had saluted at Dubbo the start prior.

Burleigh thinks her new acquisition has hit the ground running and can return a quick dividend for the young Goulburn trainer and the horse’s connections.

"I was very pleased with his run at Goulburn. He pulled up perfect after it and it added a nice little topper for a longer trip," Ms Burleigh said. "It was a suitable race to run in after a change in stable and it allowed him to settle into the new routine quickly.”

Burleigh sees plenty of positives in the horse stepping up to a mile on Tuesday: "He’s a lovely big moving horse and the 1600m will really suit him. He’s drawn wide, but the mile start at Nowra is a little more forgiving than some other tracks we were looking to race at."

She is also happy with the way the horse has settled into his new surrounds and is confident he will run well at just start number two for the new yard.

"It’s been a while since he did it, but the horse has raced and won at Nowra over 1400m previously. If he obtains a nice position in the run I feel he will relish the long straight and be strong late. Robbie Dolan has ridden him once already now and will have a good handle on the horse and the race."

Fireman Sam I Sam steps out for the Burleigh team in Race 7 at Nowra, a Benchmark 60 race over the mile where he is at $4.40 (in from $5) with TAB fixed odds.
