Doncaster Mile Weights - Handicapper's Comments

A total of 156 nominations have been weighed for the 160th running of the $4,000,000 The Star Doncaster Mile (Group 1) (1600m) to be staged on Day One of The Star Championships at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 5th April 2025.

Heading the weights is six-time Group 1 winning mare Via Sistina (IRE), allocated topweight of 60.0kg on a 50.0kg minimum (49.0kg for three-year olds). Via Sistina (IRE) is the current champion of the 2024 Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), the 2024 Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m), the 2024 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), the 2024 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) and the 2024 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

Next in line on 58.0kg is I Wish I Win (NZ), a winner of the 2024 Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m), the 2023 Group 1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) and the 2022 Golden Eagle (1500m).

Another notable entry is Ceolwulf (NZ) allocated 57.5kg, winner of the 2024 Group 1 King Charles III Stakes (1600m), and the 2024 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).

Other high rated mares are Fangirl, asked to carry 57.0kg, and Atishu (NZ), allocated 55.5kg. Both mares are multiple Group 1 winners.

Broadsiding is the highest rated three-year-old and will be asked to carry 55.0kg. Broadsiding is the winner of the 2024 Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), the 2024 Group 1 J J Atkins Plate (1600m) and the 2024 Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Heading the weights for the three-year-old fillies is Lady Shenandoah with 51.5kg, Lady Shenandoah is the winner of the 2024 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).

The 2024 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) winner Lady Shenandoah with 51.5kg, is currently the only horse exempt from ballot.
