Charges Issued Against Randwick Trainers - COVID-19 Breaches

On Friday 10 September 2021, Racing NSW Stewards conducted inquiries into alleged breaches of COVID-19 policies and orders by licensed trainers Mr John Thompson and Mr Craig Carmody. Both trainers were assisted by Barrister Mr John Anderson, instructed by Mr Kevin Shum.

Stewards issued 2 charges under the Rules of Racing against Mr Thompson and Mr Carmody for breaches of Racing NSW Covid-19 policies and protocols, and NSW Health Orders after establishing they both reside in a Local Government Area of Concern.

1. AR228(a) – Conduct prejudicial to the image and/or interests of racing.

• Both trainers attending Randwick racecourse between 2 August 2021 and 7 September 2021 in breach Racing NSW policies and protocols.
• Mr Thompson having attended Randwick race meetings on 21 August 2021 and 4 September 2021 in breach of Racing NSW policies and protocols, and NSW Health Orders.
• Mr Carmody having attended a number of race meetings during July and August 2021 in breach of Racing NSW policies and protocols, and NSW Health Orders.

2. AR233(a) – Breaching policy of a Principal Racing Authority.

• Both trainers attending Randwick racecourse between 2 August 2021 and 7 September 2021 in breach Racing NSW policies and protocols.
• Mr Thompson having attended Randwick race meetings on 21 August 2021 and 4 September 2021 in breach of Racing NSW policies and protocols.
• Mr Carmody having attended a number of race meetings during July and August 2021 in breach of Racing NSW policies and protocols.

The hearing of the charges is scheduled to be conducted at 5pm on Tuesday 14 September 2021.
