Canterbury Park Course Proper To Open For Spring Campaign Track Gallops

Trainers will be able to use the Canterbury Park course proper for Tuesday morning track gallops on selected days ahead of feature Saturday race meetings as horses begin their Sydney Spring Carnival campaigns.

The Canterbury Park course proper will be available from 6am on Tuesday 1 August for horses nominated for the Saturday 5 August (Missile Stakes raceday), and Tuesday 22 August for horses nominated for the meeting on Saturday 26 August (San Domenico Stakes raceday).

The two morning gallop sessions are during weeks where Canterbury Park is not scheduled to host a Wednesday meeting.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing James Heddo said the initiative was another part of the ATC strategy to maximise the use of Sydney’s racing and training assets.

“We have a fantastic facility at Canterbury Park and believe offering the course proper wherever possible for trackwork in the lead up to Spring will assist an even better preparation for all horses,’’ Mr Heddo said.

NSW Trainers Association CEO Glenn Burge said: “Trainers are appreciative of the opportunity to utilise the premium surface at Canterbury Park, and we look forward to continuing discussions with the ATC which may lead to more high level use of this facility.’’

Canterbury Park will be further utilised in Spring, on Thursday 7 September and Friday 8 September for the William Inglis breeze ups for two year olds, and on Monday 18 September for the official two year old barrier trials.   NOTE TO TRAINERS: Trainers who wish to use Canterbury Park on Tuesday 1 or 22 August need to SMS Canterbury Park Track Manager Greg Carmody (0408 237 479) by 5pm on the Monday prior. They must list the trainer’s name and number of horses to gallop.
