By Ray Hickson Jockey Tye Angland is heading to Randwick on Saturday confident he can start his day by correcting a contentious result and later have a strong chance of claiming another Group 1. Most punters will remember, back on September 9, Angland was first past the post on Godolphin galloper Interlocuter only to lose the race to Wayanka in the stewards room. While that decision polarised opinion, from a form perspective heading into the Adina Apartment Hotels Handicap (1600m) Angland is treating it as a win. “I thought he went super to be able to win that race first-up,’’ he said.

“Obviously there was the protest but we just forget about that and look at him winning the race and go into this race confident.’’ Trainer James Cummings has kept Interlocuter on the fresh side by spacing the five-year-old’s runs and sending him back to the trials. Angland believes the 1600m at Randwick will suit the import and is hoping the break between runs is enough to keep the sprint in his legs. “It’s not the easiest race but I think he has plenty of upside,’’ he said. “Does he lose a bit of turn of foot second up? Probably, but what he did first-up was superb and he’s going to improve off it so I’m going to the races confident.’’ Already this carnival Angland has notched a Group 1 success with Trapeze Artist taking out the Golden Rose and he’s the pilot on Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) favourite Ace High again on Saturday. The colt led all the way to win the Gloaming Stakes on Golden Rose day and Angland said he sees no reason why he isn’t the horse to beat again. “He doesn’t have to lead but the good thing about him is he is going to get the trip and he is going to get further,’’ he said. “I like how he got to the front, how he relaxed and when they came to him he picked up and went on with it. He knows what it’s all about now.’’ Angland said he ensured the Gloaming was a strong staying test and won’t be afraid to do so again on Saturday but is well aware he may not get control this time around. A wide barrier could prove to be a positive to Single Bullet’s chances in the Group 2 $300,000 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m), according to Angland. The Gary Portelli-trained three-year-old was strung up on the inside when he resumed with a closing second behind Viridine in the Heritage Stakes on September 16. “We fell into the box seat and couldn’t get out until late,’’ he said. “I’m not saying he would have won the race but he would have gone close and challenged the winner. “I’ll have a look at the speed in the race but he is pretty adaptable and we’ll have more options.’’ Check out the form, fields and replays for Royal Randwick on Saturday
