ATC Pays Tribute To Valmae Cummings

The Australian Turf Club has today extended its condolences to the family of Valmae Cummings – wife of legendary trainer Bart – following her passing yesterday.

Valmae, who was married to Bart Cummings for 61 years, has been remembered by family as a warm and intelligent businesswoman, who played a significant role in her husband’s success.

As a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she has been a part of several generations of the Cummings family’s Group 1 victories across Australia.

Australian Turf Club Chairman Laurie Macri said the racing industry and public would always hold a special place in their hearts for Valmae and Bart Cummings.

“Valmae lived a remarkable life at the heart of a remarkable racing family, and we pass on our sincere condolences but also our thanks for her long and successful life,’’ Mr Macri said.

“For many decades, Valmae has been a major part of Australian racing history and the extraordinary success of the Cummings family.

“Through husband Bart, son Anthony, and grandsons James and Edward reaching the top of our sport, she leaves a wonderful legacy.

“The racing industry is a family in itself, and in Valmae we have lost one of our most cherished members.’’
