Outcome Of Appeal - Jockey Blake Shinn

Licensed jockey Blake Shinn lodged an appeal against conviction and penalty after being found guilty of careless riding by Racing NSW Stewards under AR137(a) after his ride on I Thought So in Race 8 (The Man Shake Handicap, 1100m) at Randwick Racecourse on Saturday 25, May 2018.

Following a Stewards inquiry on this date, Mr Shinn was suspended for a period commencing Sunday, 3 June 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 14 June 2018, on which day he was able to ride.

This appeal was heard on Tuesday, 5 June 2018 commencing at 9:30am at the offices of Racing NSW in Sydney.

The Panel gave the following orders:

1. The appeal against conviction is dismissed.
2. The appeal on severity is allowed and in lieu of the penalty of a six-meeting suspension, a penalty of a four-meeting suspension is imposed, commencing on Sunday, 10 June 2018 and ending on Friday, 15 June 2018, on which day the Appellant may ride.
3. 50% of the appeal deposit is refunded.
