Outcome Of Appeal By Apprentice Jockey Rebeka Prest

Licensed apprentice jockey lodged an Appeal against conviction and penalty after being found guilty by Racing NSW Stewards under AR129(2) after her ride on Cosmo Star in Race 4 (Benchmark 50 Handicap, 1400m) at Gundagai-Adelong Racing Club on Saturday, 29 June 2019.

Following a Stewards inquiry on Wednesday, 10 July 2019, Ms Prest was suspended for a period of five weeks to commence Saturday, 20 July and to expire on Saturday, 24 August 2019.

On application of the Appellant, which was not opposed by the Stewards, the Principal Member granted a Stay of Proceedings. This Appeal was heard on Thursday, 26 September 2019 commencing at 10am.

The Panel gave the following orders:

  1. Appeal against finding of breach of AR129(2) dismissed
  2. Finding of breach of AR129(2) confirmed
  3. Appeal against severity of penalty allowed
  4. In lieu of a five-week suspension, the appellant's licence to ride is suspended for three weeks, such suspension commencing on 27 September and to expire on 18 October 2019, on which day the appellant may ride
  5. Half of the Appeal deposit to be refunded
