Apprentice Jockey Jean Van Overmeire's Appeal Concluded

Licensed jockey Jean Van Overmeire lodged an appeal against penalty after being found guilty by Racing NSW Stewards under AR145 in that he weighed in, in excess of ½ a kilogram of his allotted weight following his ride on, Top Stricker in Race 8 (ClubNSW Handicap, 1200m) at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, 20 October 2018.

Following a Stewards inquiry, Mr Van Overmeire was suspended for a period commencing on Monday, 22 October 2018 and to expire on Monday, 5 November 2018 on which day he may resume riding.

This appeal was heard on Friday, 26 October 2018 at the offices of Racing NSW commencing at 9:30am.

The panel gave the following orders:

  1. Appeal against severity of penalty dismissed
  2. Penalty of a two-week suspension confirmed. Penalty commenced on Monday, 22 October 2018 and to expire on Monday, 5 November 2018 on which day the appellant may ride
  3. Appeal deposit to be forfeited
