Jockey Quotes - The Four Pillars Midway

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $500,000 Four Pillars Midway (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Dylan Gibbons (Sweet Mercy): “I may be tall but I’m skinny and the horse is skinny too.

“I was just travelling so well and when they pitched me half a run I thought, well it’s now or never, and to the horse’s credit, she was very brave. If she didn’t want that, she wouldn’t have got it, so I think we owe her a fair few carrots.”

“I was because when I started to really pick up I thought, I’ve got a lot horse and not many options and it was probably half an option and I turned it into a full option, so thankfully she was full of running and got the job done.”

Anna Roper (Oakfield Waratah): “Really good today. Had to do a bit of work to get across from the wide gate but has run super considering.”

Zac Lloyd (Burning Need): “Lovely run in transit. Horse was very creditable in defeat.”

Amy McLucas (Rebel Shadow): “Got too far back and had no luck in the straight.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Oakfield Arrow): “Didn’t pull up great in his action.”

Josh Parr (Deniliquin): “Closed off reasonably well.”

Damian Lane (Toesonthenose): “Ran well.”

Michael Dee (Awesome Lad): “Covered ground but faded quite early.”

Jason Collett (Toronomica): “Just wasn’t able to finish it off strong at the end of the distance.”

Tom Sherry (Backrower): “Just didn’t feel as though he didn’t give the best account of himself today.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Bazooka): “Very plain.”

Lee Magorrian (Epicus): “He went well. Thought I was a big chance at the top of the straight. Probably a run short.”

Brock Ryan (Satness): “Very brave run up on speed. Had a long prep and might be looking for the paddock now.”

Tyler Schiller (Smartawi): “He pulled up with a bleed so it probably explains why he stopped at the 200m.”

Regan Bayliss (Mydeel): “Not going any good this prep.”

Tommy Berry (Victory Lane): “It looked messy on paper and it was messy.”

Koby Jennings (Modern Millie): “There was a fair bit to digest in that. Barrier 1 and a twenty horse field. She still won very very well. I think there is a mile race for her.”

Craig Williams (Resistible): “Has been really well prepared for this race second up. Big money race, had a nice run in front but just denied. Wasn’t beaten far in the end.

Molly Bourke (Crackalacka): “She ran an awesome race today. Really hit the line strongly. Will improve over further.’

Rory Hutchings (Sovereign Express): “Phenomenal run. He’s run out of skin to be beaten a length and a half. Came from a long way back. Going well this prep.”
