Jockey Quotes - Giga Kick Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $3,000,000 Giga Kick Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Craig Williams (Bella Nipotina): “She walked in the yard and she just looked amazing today. Her performance last time I said would warrant that she’d run top four or five in The Everest, that’s how good she was and we still only ran third.”

“They came here to 1300m and we still draw a wide barrier. I’ve never ridden the 1300m start before so I rang a really good friend of mine, Rodney Quinn, and asked him what to do. And apart from giving me some heads up - I don’t want to tell everyone what he told me, he said pray a little bit.”

The reason why she’s up here is because of economics. She’s already a mare with a Group One win and the prize money and the bonus she’s had on offer is the reason why we made a business decision to come up here, not a racing historian position.”

Again, I was very rewarded with my horse and the only reason Bella Nipotina is as good as what she is, is because of the people she has behind her.”

“Ciaron Maher, David Eustace and all their teams in Melbourne and Sydney, thank you very much for preparing her and again, without her guts and determination and ability, that’s the reason why I’m getting interviewed (as the winner).”

Nash Rawiller (Private Eye): “The horse was brilliant. Hard not to be disappointed. Matter of fact I feel like crying. He ran his heart out. Had the perfect run today. Full credit to the winner. Craig just got a bit strung up getting through but gee it attacked the line and we were left a bit of a sitting shot.”

Sam Clipperton (Think About It): “Nothing obvious I can offer other than the fact he was beaten by two better horses on the day. Seems strange to say but I thought the horse ran terrific. Can’t offer anything at this stage. Has earned a well earned break and come back in the Autumn.”

Ben Melham (Cascadian): “He ran terrific. A great first up run. In for a good campaign.”

Tommy Berry (Mazu): “Strange run. Just never travelled today. Almost had Nash in there but he wasn’t going well enough.”

Regan Bayliss (Surf Dancer): “He has run tremendous first up. He has other plans further down the track but really happy with his first up effort.”

Tyler Schiller (Coal Crusher): “Terrific run. I think he is going to be well suited in The Hunter that he is aiming at.”

Damian Lane (Zapateo): “Didn’t have a perfect run but ultimately she just couldn’t quite sprint as sharp as the first few across the line.”
