Employment Opportunity: GM Of Tracks & Ground (Kembla Grange) - Closes Today!

Illawarra Turf Club is seeking a General Manager of Tracks & Grounds who will be responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of Kembla Grange Racecourse thoroughbred racing and training surfaces, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of safety, consistency, and performance.

This role requires extensive knowledge of track composition, moisture management, equipment operation, and horse welfare. The GM-Tracks and Grounds works closely with racing officials, veterinarians, trainers, Club CEO, Racing Manager, Trackwork Supervisor, Operations Manager, and maintenance staff to deliver optimal racing and training conditions year-round.

Key Responsibilities

Track Maintenance & Safety
o Oversee the preparation, grading, and daily maintenance of the racing surface(s)
o Monitor weather and moisture levels to maintain ideal track conditions
o Conduct daily track inspections and ensure consistent surface integrity
o Implement safety protocols to minimise injury risk to horses and riders

Equipment & Operations Management
o Manage and maintain all track-related machinery (tractors, mowers, etc.)
o Schedule and supervise equipment usage and servicing
o Ensure all maintenance practices comply with industry and regulatory standards

Staff Supervision & Scheduling
o Recruit, train, and manage a team of track maintenance personnel
o Coordinate shift schedules, workload distribution, and safety compliance
o Provide hands-on leadership and ensure a strong safety culture
o Roster raceday staff in conjunction with the Racing Manager

Stakeholder Communication
o Liaise with racing officials, ITC Racing Manager, stewards, veterinarians, and trainers regarding track conditions
o Respond to feedback and adapt maintenance plans accordingly
o Attend race day meetings and provide track condition updates as needed

Compliance & Reporting
o Maintain records of track maintenance, inspections, and weather impacts
o Ensure compliance with relevant racing authority regulations and safety guidelines
o Oversight of the ITC WHS

Qualifications & Experience
o Extensive experience in thoroughbred racing and training track maintenance or equivalent
o Strong knowledge of racing surface materials, equipment operation, and maintenance protocols
o Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment
o Familiarity with industry regulations and animal welfare best practices
o Mechanical aptitude and experience with heavy machinery and irrigation systems
o Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and racedays
