Tyers Park's Bathurst Cup Set To Move To The Spring

By Alexander Grant

We've had one Bathurst Cup run in 2019 - now we're going to have another!

Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing Club has proudly announced the new spring Cup Day calendar move to Sunday 29 September, next month.

The Ray White Emms Mooney Bathurst Cup Day is the second largest of the Tyers Park 12 scheduled meetings each year and the move to align the Cup Day with Spring racing will see the event continue to grow.

As racing in Sydney sees many stars of the track return for the spring racing carnival the Bathurst Club identified an opportunity on the last Sunday in September.

The club also revealed another major programming initiative that coincides with the $260,000 prizemoney Racing NSW Country Showcase meeting.

A new race, 'The Panorama' run over 1300m for $40,000, will feature on the day and provide country horses preparing for The Kosciuszko an ideal opportunity.

Bathurst's meeting comes 20 days before the running of The Kosciuszko which makes Tyers Park well-positioned to play host to some classy sprinters.

The spring meeting move is a major coup for the club during a period where many punters and fans have their "head in racing" and the club is preparing for a large community raceday.

"The announcement of The Panorama in conjunction with the Spring Cup race date is exciting news for the Club," said Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing manager, Michelle Tarpenning.

"To be in a position to provide an opportunity for those Country participants leading into a race like the Kosciuszko is a great outcome. The Panorama will carry $40,000 in prizemoney which is a terrific incentive.

"We have been working closely with Racing NSW to come up with the concept of The Panorama. We're excited about it and it will result in some terrific racing and a great day out for everybody.

"There's going to be music on the lawn, food vendors, VIP ticketing availability and plenty of activities for the families including children’s jumping castle and face painting.

"The Cup day will fall on a Sunday this year and we are focused on providing a day for the entire community.

"Dave Stanley from TAB will be our MC for the day and we had him on board for the Bathurst Cup this year and he's a fountain of information and a really great guy to chat with."

The unique programming for the Panorama on Bathurst Cup Day will see country-trained horses obtain first opportunity in the race with a maximum topweight of 63kg regardless of benchmark rating.

The Club is proud to be associated with Ray White Emms Mooney as major sponsors of the Bathurst Cup. The meeting will also be raising funds for Daffodil Cottage.

The Bathurst Cup has often drawn provincial and metro trainers to the city. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Chocolatier took out March's edition of the Bathurst Cup as favourite.
