New Sponsor For 2025 Tye Angland Medal (Wagga Gold Cup Carnival)

Former Wagga boy Tye Angland is annually recognised by Murrumbidgee Turf Club with a Medal named in his honour.

The inaugural Tye Angland Medal was staged in 2019 and is now one of the highlights of the Wagga Gold Cup Carnival each winter (Thursday 1 May & Friday 2 May).

The Medal presented to the leading jockey of the two-day carnival, celebrates the riding career of Tye and also offers a generous donation to the Tye Angland Foundation, this year courtesy of VISY Logistics and the MTC.

Tye became a paraplegic following a fall from Go Beauty Go at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong seven years ago.

He booted home just under 1000 winners during a fantastic riding career and along with 11 Group One wins he took out the 2018 Wagga Gold Cup on Life Less Ordinary.

“The MTC is thrilled to be partnering with VISY Logistics this year who will be supporting the tradition of the Medal with a generous $3000 donation to Tye’s charity ‘Team Tye Foundation’,” explained MTC’s CEO, Jason Ferrario.

“As well, the MTC will donate an additional $1000 to the winning jockey, which previously has been donated back to the Team Tye Foundation.”

VISY Logistics is looking forward to the new sponsorship and being a part of this year’s Wagga Gold Cup Carnival.

“We are proud to support the Wagga Gold Cup and to sponsor the prestigious Tye Angland Medal – it’s a true celebration of the talent, dedication and passion within the racing industry,” said Wayne Boxshall, Country Manager for Logistics Australia.

“Our continued support of these events underscores our dedication to fostering local talent and strengthening community ties across the Riverina as well as looking forward to many more opportunities to celebrate and contribute to the growth of our local community.”

The Team Tye Foundation assists people in racing dealing with catastrophic injury or hardship, focusing on the many jockeys and industry workers around the globe.

Last year another former local jockey Tyler Schiller (raised in nearby Young) won the Tye Angland Medal by three points, claiming the title of leading rider at the Wagga Gold Cup Carnival.

Mr Ferrario said his Club is looking forward to another fantastic Wagga Gold Cup Carnival and is grateful for the newfound sponsorship with VISY Logistics.

“The Tye Angland Medal is a great opportunity to celebrate the leading jockey over both days of the Wagga Gold Cup Carnival as well as continuing the tradition of donating to the Team Tye Foundation.

“The Wagga Gold Cup Carnival continues to attract fantastic local and interstate jockeys, and we look forward to celebrating the winner of this year’s Tye Angland Medal.”
