Special Fundraising Lunch For Lismore's Scott Jones

Lismore Turf Club has a host of sporting stars and memorabilia lined up at special luncheon next month to raise funds for recovering secretary-manager Scott Jones.

LTC will be holding the luncheon from midday on Sunday 18 March at the race club which will include former Australian Test cricketer Greg Ritchie, former Australian and Canberra Raiders fullback Gary Belcher, former US Open golf winner Wayne Grady and Olympic sailor Mark Forbes.

Helen Sinclair, a former CEO and general manager of the Scone and Tamworth race clubs, is volunteering at the LTC and helping the club cover the gaping hole left by Scott Jones's terrifying accident.

In November last year, Scott suffered burns to 45% of his body in an accidental explosion at the club and he has been receiving intensive medical attention and treatment since. Scott has been recovering well, but has been unable to return to work, Helen Sinclair reported.

“LTC has organised a number of sportsmen to attend the luncheon and entertain the attendees, including former cricketer Greg Ritchie, golfer Wayne Grady, former rugby league player Gary Belcher with Mark Forbes as MC,” Helen Sinclair said. “Tickets for the function are $150 which covers both lunch and a drinks package.

“In addition to the entertainment, there will also be an auction of sports memorabilia, raffles and a Calcutta on the Scone Championship Raceday held during the luncheon. The Hunter and North West Racing Association’s Country Championship Heat is being run on the same Sunday (March 18) as the luncheon.”

Helen Sinclair’s “help” at the LTC has and is well received and it’s something the outstanding administrator is enjoying: “They are the most fabulous group of people to work with,” she said of LTC chairman Mark Oaten and his committee.

Vice-chairman Mike Cleaver has stepped into the breach to “fill in” for Scott Jones while he recovers from the skin graft operations and welcomed her input. Tickets to the luncheon can be purchased from Lismore Turf Club, M&T Tyres, Somerville Laundry and Lomax Lawyers and Oatens, Casino.

If you wish to donate to the auction or raffle that will be held on the day, please contact Helen Sinclair (0418 201 832 or helen.sinclair@hotmail.com). Further information on the luncheon can be obtained from Lismore Turf Club's president, Mark Oaten (0417 811 323).
