Siena Eyes Cup Success With Who Ever Thought (Coonabarabran Sunday)

By John Schell

City winning apprentice Siena Grima has her eyes firmly set on scoring a win in Sunday’s $75,000 Imperial Hotel Coonabarabran Cup (1600m) when she combines with the Jeremy Gask trained Who Ever Thought.

Grima, who has enjoyed success in Sydney with trainer Chris Waller, doesn’t claim on country tracks anymore, but that hasn’t stopped Gask booking her to ride his form galloper in the feature at Coonabarabran.

Who Ever Thought won two in a row at Scone and Canterbury in May and June this year.

The son of Panzer Division then ran fourth on the Kensington track at Randwick before successive thirds at Warwick Farm and Dubbo.

The latest placing was when Grima was in the saddle behind Cristal Clear in the Dubbo Gold Cup.

Who Ever Thought has already amassed almost $220,000 in prizemoney courtesy of six wins and five placings from 19 starts.

Who Ever Thought will face stern opposition in the Coonabarabran Cup with Coonamble Gold Cup runner-up Lockdown Gamble also in action for trainer David Smith and jockey Jake Pracey-Holmes.

Grima, meanwhile, has five other rides at Coonabarabran starting with the Kevin Dixon prepared Rhodesian Diamond in the Reggie’s Tattersalls Hotel Baradine & Pursehouse Rural Class 1 Showcase Handicap (1400m).

She will then be legged aboard the Paul Clisby trained Supreme Style, which is yet to miss a place from three starts, in the Barron’s Tyre & Mechanical And Big Sky Experiences Country Boosted Maiden Plate (900m).

First starter Somerton Smart will contest the Brett Bowman Racing & Breeding Happy 25th Anniversary Brett & Katrina Super Maiden Handicap (1200m) for Grima and trainer Sue Grills.

Somerton Smart ran third in its only barrier trial at Tamworth in preparation for his debut.

Grima links with trainer Holly Williams when Enterprise Legend runs in the Coonabarabran Bowling Club Cup Day Sprint (1100m) with the gelding having followed a second at Dubbo with a last start eighth at Warwick Farm when beaten 4.41 lengths.

Grima’s remaining ride at Coonabarabran is Night Fighter for Grills in the Futurity Pastoral Baradine Cup Benchmark 66 Handicap (1400m).
