Reece Jones Studies Up Ahead Of Tamworth (Tuesday)

By Tony Megahey

In-demand NSW premiership apprentice Reece Jones, with another full book and combining with his boss Rod Northam, is the value at Tuesday’s Tamworth TAB meeting where wet track form is the prerequisite.

On an eight-race capacity program, Jones with a century of winners over the past 12 months including a phenomenal four-timer at Royal Randwick in June, has four rides for Northam’s Scone stables and prime rides for outside trainers.

So, after a “duck egg” at Newcastle on Sunday, Reece’s strike rate and consistency suggests he’ll crack it at Tamworth.  And for his supporters, most at juicy prices.

Reece, always across the form, assessed his rides: “Chances all day I think, I’ve ridden before in the right races, but a lot depends on if it stays heavy,” Reece offered.

Mo’s Glory ($13 on TAB) contests the Buy Your Quast Xmas Turkey 1600m.

“She ran well in a decent race at Wyong, but she’s doesn’t want it too wet and is drawn wide.”

Northam’s Fanz ($4 favourite) contests the Cannon & Cohen Mdn, 1200m.

“Big field, open race with so many newcomers but from the good draw he can be on speed.

“We looked home at Quirindi, only got us late and he’s fitter from a spell and drawn.”

Stablemate The Wayfarer ($5) contests a deep Sky Racing World, Heat of the Rising Star (1000m).

“Tough race with last start winners but he’s got the speed to be on pace, we led winning here at ‘1000’’ and he gave me a nice feel in a trial - without being extended - he’s forward enough.”

Reece rode impressive last start Dubbo winner Honeywine ($6) for Garry Lunn into a Courthouse Hotel Tamworth BM58 (1400m).

“Hard race - last start winners from strong stables - but really big win last start drawn wide.  The plan wasn’t to lead but we were posted so went forward and he kept giving.

“Back from 1600m, we can’t lead from out there, hopefully jump and get some cover. He’s eight, been through a couple of stables but that was his fifth win, so Garry (Lunn) has him well placed and racing really well.”

The Morgan brothers Cody and Luke have strong prospects on their home track which is a Heavy 8 at present in clearing weather.
