Racing Returns To Wagga Course Proper Following Completion Of Drainage Works

By Matt Malone (Wagga Daily Advertiser)

Racing at Wagga will return to the course proper on Friday for the first time since November 3. The past three race meetings at Murrumbidgee Turf Club have been held on the inner Riverside track as $200,000 of renovations were conducted on the course proper.

Drainage works to the outside six metres of the entire track were completed, courtesy of Racing NSW funding.

It completes the drainage works at the track after the first stage was carried out in 2014. Sandgrooving was also conducted to rejuvenate the existing drainage.

MTC track manager Mark Hart said the works will make a big difference: “It won’t weather proof it, but we’ll be able to get 30-40 millimetres in the winter time, and as long as we get 24 hours, we should race,” Hart said.

Hart said the track is in top condition for Friday’s return to racing: “It will look a million dollars on Friday,” Hart said.
