Racing Mates Brings Racing Participants Together At Wagga

By Phillip O'Brien

Racing Mates helped Murrumbidgee Turf Club launch their 150-Year Cup Carnival celebrations by hosting a BBQ get-together for racing participants at the Wagga race meeting on Sunday, 2nd April 2023.

The aim of Racing Mates gatherings is to bring racing participants together for a chat, and a bite, which has proven to be well received.

At the Wagga Racing Mates BBQ were (L-R): Jason Ferrario (MTC's CEO), Pat Stephen (MTC's finance manager) and Phillip O'Brien (Racing NSW)

The BBQ was hosted by the Club’s finance manager Pat Stephen, who led cooking duties while local trainer association representative, Wayne Carroll was on hand to lend an ear to local participants.

“Murrumbidgee Turf Club (MTC) was delighted to have Racing Mates involved in our raceday on Sunday April 2 and privileged to provide a BBQ for such a worthy concept,” said MTC's Chief Executive Officer, Jason Ferrario.

“Racing Mates is a great initiative, giving all thoroughbred racing participants an opportunity to come together, chat openly with like-minded people and support each other, in order to create well-being among all participants.”

The Wagga gathering follows other successful Racing Mates gatherings hosted by ambassador Pat Webster across New South Wales.

“Sitting down for a chat can make all the difference in someone’s life,” Webster said.

“Racing Mates is all about empowering ‘mates to look out for mates’, particularly in the country regions where some may feel their voice isn’t heard.”
