Racing Mates continues to change lives, following another successful BBQ get-together which was held for Central West Racing Participants at the Orange race meeting on Saturday 22 February.

Racing Mates Ambassador, Pat Webster, hosted the latest event which promoted the concept of ‘mates looking out for mates’.

“The BBQ get-togethers that we host are all about bringing the racing industry together for a chat,” Webster said.

“We would like to give a special thanks to Racing Orange for allowing us to host this event for Central West racing participants.

“The participants really appreciated the BBQ and the opportunity to come together and help out each other if we can.”

Racing Mates is a peer support initiative established by Racing NSW, empowering mates to look out for mates.

“Research has found that support offered from peers and colleagues can aid significantly in coping with stress and difficult situations,” Mr Webster said.

“We have found that people are often more likely to initially reach out to a trusted peer or colleague for support.

“Like all Racing Mates Ambassadors, I am here to provide the link between those in need and the required support.”

Racing industry participants in the South East Racing Districts are invited to attend the next Racing Mates ‘Get-together’, which will be held at the Moruya Jockey Club race meeting on Monday 16 March from 1pm.

“We are looking forward to catching up with participants of the South East,” said Mr Webster.

“This is a great opportunity for the local racing community of Moruya to come together for a chat, after what has been a very difficult time for the region with the recent bushfire crisis.”

A lunchtime BBQ will be provided to racing participants from 1pm. The race meeting will also feature a ‘Racing Mates’ race with Webster to host the presentation.

“This is a great opportunity for the South Coast people to come together and chat. We look forward to catching up with all the attendees.”
