Queanbeyan Winners - Tips For Sunday 11th May

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Queanbeyan meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 12:45PM NAVY COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1460 METRES)

3. I Am A Rockstar is an improving type who went down fighting over 1400m at Canberra at his third start. By far his best effort to date and slightly more ground is a plus by the looks. Draws to get every chance to go one better in a winnable race.

Dangers: 1. In The Nic Of Time has been beaten as favourite at his past two starts and didn’t travel well at all at Canberra last time. Jumps from 1000m which is also a query but if he does everything right he’ll be a major threat. 4. Closethedoordarcy gave a good sight up on the speed in a similar race here a couple of weeks ago just failing to hold off the winner. Must be included. 2. Evokes has been behind the placings at his past few and was in the market when a shade disappointing at Goulburn. Could be placed.

How to play it: I Am A Rockstar WIN ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:20PM AIR FORCE CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2000 METRES)

2. Ana Carolina was game in a Class 1 that was a bit stronger than usual with a Group 1 placed mare taking it out. She boxed on well to just miss second at her second run from a five week break. Much easier task here and drawn to get every hope.

Dangers: 7. Cheval Gris found the line quite well when runner-up at Newcastle before failing when right in the market at Gosford on Anzac Day. Find this a bit easier and entitled to be competitive. 5. Lucky Star has been honest with a second to Ana Carolina and a placing at Bathurst at his past two. Not far off a win and is in the mix. 8. Juan Pablo is lightly raced and might appreciate the extra ground after his last start fourth at Bathurst. Stays under notice.

How to play it: Ana Carolina WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 1:55PM MARS ROAD SERVICES ARMY CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Exceedingly Hot is well placed in this event after being run down by a smart one at Albury then solid again at Wagga last time out at this trip. Should get across from the barrier and take plenty of running down.

Dangers: 6. The Predictor started favourite when a fair fourth at Goulburn two weeks ago, running on without threatening. Consistent type and while he’s not been placed at this track he has a good chance. 7. Juliette’s Joy is racing well at this track and tried hard when third over 1460m here last time. Extra trip might be in her favour. 2. Casanova won nicely at Hawkesbury two months ago then didn’t fire at the same track a month later. Find this a touch easier and he could be an improver.

How to play it: Exceedingly Hot WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Exceedingly Hot runs fourth at Wagga on May 1

Race 4 - 2:30PM PETER & AUDREY SHARP MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE (900 METRES)

11. Magic Speed is a two-year-old filly on debut after an impressive trial win at this track beating open class horses. She was ridden up to get a good test. Should land forward and if she runs up to the trial she will take beating.

Dangers: 10. Lookacrossthewater had her first run for the new stable and led at the Sapphire Coast before weakening to finish midfield. Wet track was suggested as an excuse. Firmer track likely to suit so can improve. 12. Scarlet Monarch has been in the market in two runs back but yet to fill a placing. Sat handy at Scone last time, likely less depth here and has place claims. 4. Weird Goodbyes has placed in two of three starts including the latest at his track when boxing on for third. Has a show again.

How to play it: Magic Speed WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Magic Speed wins a Queanbeyan trial on April 22

Race 5 - 3:10PM CAMPBELL & GEORGE DEFENCE FORCE CUP BM 82 HANDICAP (1460M)

3. Champions League is a consistent performer at this level and made some ground in a Federal at Canberra last time to be just behind them. Claim and inside draw are pluses to him and he won’t be too far away at the finish.

Dangers: 4. Almost Persuaded rounded them up to win nicely at this track and distance in BM58 grade last time out. Nice weight drop for her and she can’t be overlooked. 1. Blow In was a drifter in betting but found a bit of form to run into third at Dubbo when back to 1200m last week. Extra ground better for him and he’s in the mix. 2. Mathrin can mix form but won well at Corowa three back and latest third at Albury was handy with Champions League ahead of her. Each-way claims.

How to play it: Champions League WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Champions League runs fourth at Canberra on April 26

Race 6 - 3:50PM QUEANBEYAN RSL CORAL SEA CUP BM58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

2. All Astern looked to appreciate the drop to this trip when fighting hard in front and holding them off at Canberra under a big weight. Drops 5.5kg for a modest class rise and if she can show the same resolve she will be hard to beat again.

Dangers: 5. Anthracia has won three of her five starts this time in and they’ve all been at this track. Hit the line from off the speed to win her past two and only has to hold her form to be in the finish again. 9. The Mooch ran on well to just miss in a similar race on April 22 then had her chance but not beaten far at Dubbo last week. Should run well again. 7. Tenner won well on debut at Goulburn in November, led and failed to beat one home when resuming there two weeks ago. Inclined to give her another chance.

How to play it: All Astern WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

All Astern wins at Canberra on April 26

Race 7 - 4:30PM STEVE CONROY MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1460 METRES)

1. Tommy Flyer probably should have gone close to winning when placed at Sapphire Coast last week. Lost his spot at a vital stage and did well to get into a placing. Impressive winner at 1200m here prior and is clearly the one to beat.

Dangers: 4. Rileycat worked home well without threatening the winner when placed at Albury a few weeks back. Lightly raced and has the inside gate. Definite chance. 3. Green Pineapple has a wide gate to overcome but isn’t far off a win after placings at Orange and Narromine at his last two. 2. Midnight Luna won a maiden over this course before up to this grade and narrowly denied back in December. Resuming with no public trials and a wide gate but pay to keep safe.

How to play it: Tommy Flyer WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).
