Pink Celebrations Around The Course For Wagga Tradies Day (Friday)

By Mark Brassel

Wagga Racecourse will display pink as far as the eye can see during Friday’s Stan Sadleir Stakes Day that will double as ‘Tradies Raceday’.

“Murrumbidgee Turf Club is thrilled to announce their new charity partnership ‘Raising Hope with Steph’ on Tradies Day,” said Jemima Lyons, MTC’s Public Relations Specialist.

“The afternoon honours local 7 News Sports Reporter, Steph Muir, in the pursuit to raise funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

MTC's Wagga Racetrack will be flush with pink on Friday's Tradies Day

“Racegoers will be encouraged to wear a touch of pink, with general admission tickets starting at $10 whereas it’s free entry for tradies.

“The course will be awash with pink, and the deck area transformed into the ‘Pink in the Paddock Precinct’ with tickets available online for $50.

“Racegoers are encouraged to purchase tickets for the ‘Precinct which gives them four drink tickets; proceeds go towards the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

“And the party won’t stop after the last race with Aaron Oldaker keeping the tunes going until 7pm.”

Feature race is the $32,000 Stan Sadleir Stakes (1400m) with the race consistently producing excellent form lines.

Dual city winner Body Bob won last year’s Stan Sadleir with fourth horse In De Summertime a previous Warwick Farm winner. County Kilkenny was seventh and is a Randwick Kensington winner.

In 2023 Rocket Tiger was runner-up to Mycah Leon, with the ‘Tiger having won at Randwick before finishing second to now sire Home Affairs in the Silver Slipper Stakes.

And in 2022 Banger, a Rosehill and Sandown winner, took out the race from Swagger who was a Randwick winner. The third horse Galaxy Force was previously placed at Randwick.

Supporting race is the $30,00 Mountaineer Cup over the gruelling 3200m trip which is also a heat of the Wagga Stayer Series.

On Thursday, Sapphire Coast Turf Club hosts a seven-race program – the Club backs up five days later with Big Dance Day.

“It’s sure to be an exciting day of racing with Bermagui Cup Day,” said Jen Svenoy, Sponsorship & Marketing Manager for SCTC.

“We’ll have bars, kiosks and food vans, with a TAB and bookmakers operating. There are also free buses to and from the track so check our website for times.

“Bermagui Cup is proudly sponsored by Butterfield Property, Felix Macedo Memorial, Bermagui Motorworks, Eastwoods, Pure Energy Electrical, Bermagui Cellars and Bega District News.”

Sapphire Coast then celebrates Randwick’s Big Dance on Tuesday 4 November.

“Gates open at 11am for a day packed with live racing, full coverage of the Big Dance and Melbourne Cup, a Fashions on the Field contest and the fun Dino Dash Sprint down the straight,” Ms Svenoy said.

“We’ll again have free buses along with food vans, bars and bookmakers. The day is sponsored by Robert Smith Homemakers, NSWSCGA, Dwyer Properties, H Real Estate and Kothes Accounting Group.”

Meanwhile, Canberra Racing Club has announced Danielle Seib and Nick Olive have joined its training ranks.

This means Thoroughbred Park’s training facility is almost at capacity following the positive legislative change related to Worker’s Compensation.

“I am keen to get home,” Olive said. “Canberra is where I’ve trained for the majority of my life and it’s home to me.”
