On A Promise Chasing Sixth Straight Win At Orange (Tuesday)

By Tony Megahey

Brett Robb, on a career best streak since switching from Nyngan to Dubbo through the courtesy of Kody Nestor, is the trainer to follow with three value last-start winners at Tuesday’s Orange TAB meeting.

On a capacity seven-event program that has attracted the strongest regional stables, Brett in respective races has grand sprinter On a Promise ($4.60 on TAB) attempting six successive wins, while restricted gallopers, Silver Scissors ($4.40) and Lipstick Lil ($4.80) are also last-start winners.

“Harder races for my three for sure, no luck with the barriers but we’re going in with form and fitness,” Brett offered.

Brett is going it alone since a lengthy education as foreman for his father, country training great Rodney.

“Kody Nestor was kind enough to give me his boxes at the track when he took time off and use of their family farm.

“I’ve got 25 in work, ride my own and we’ve had some luck lately. Dubbo is far more central and accessible and far less travel time to get to meetings.”

On a Promise a six-year-old was originally with Rodney.

“He’s always been genuine and tough, he’s thrived out here, all career he’s mixed picnics and non-TABs but he’s always competitive,” Brett said as On a Promise contests the XXXX Gold BM 74, 1400m, with 57.5kg less the 1.5 kg claim for Casey Waddell.

“He trialled nicely, his best form is always fresh, drawn wide in a strong field but he’ll be competitive - always is.”

Silver Scissors contests race two and Lipstick Lil the fourth event.

“Lipstick Lil is a lightly raced five-year-old, really consistent, been working up to a win and she’s come on since that Mudgee maiden.

“It’s always a task coming off a maiden into a class 2 but she’s well drawn, race fit and mares generally hold their form.

"Silver Scissors led and was dominant winning at Dubbo maiden. She’s progressed but drawn out in a deep race, that's the issue.

"Bjorn Baker has a couple of last start winners in it. Always hard to beat when he comes here with form.“

At present Orange is a Good 4 track in fine weather.
