Nowra Winners - Tips for Sunday 21st September

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Nowra meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 1:45PM NADINE STEVENS LEGAL CG&E MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

4. Perfect Good Star is on debut as a four-year-old for the Ryan & Alexiou stable and has looked the part winning both trials leading in at Rosehill. Looks the type to push forward and get up on the pace and is sure to give a good account on what we’ve seen.

Dangers: 6. Disparate has been scratched a number times since making an even debut at Hawkesbury where he was solid in betting, raced near the speed three wide and just weakened late. Will need even luck from the gate but logical danger. 7. Fierceness gets away from a heavy track where he was safely held, to be fair it was a pretty strong maiden, and has been back to the trials. Entitled to another chance. 5. Sheriff’s Star has placed in four of his nine starts and resumes a month since his second trial where he won over 1100m in a small field. Not without a chance from a soft gate.

How to play it: Perfect Good Star WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:20PM TRUSTEL & OUTLOOK CONSTRUCTIONS C1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. The Main Event was coming along well before going to Sydney and not being quite up to Highway company at this stage. Back to a Class 1 and was dominant in winning her maiden at Moruya beating a subsequent winner. Entitled to go close from a soft draw in a small field.

Dangers: 3. Rocco Lini looked pretty good on debut at the Sapphire Coast back in December but didn’t replicate it at his only other run when favourite. Given plenty of time and a recent trial winner. Well worth considering. 4. Blue Bayou has three seconds from her last five starts though she was disappointing a month ago at Moruya when supported. Freshened up and capable of bouncing back. 6. Written By Lucy just got the job done to break through at her fourth start at Gundagai two weeks ago. Has to step up but chance in the small field.

How to play it: The Main Event WIN ($3.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:55PM VALE GRAHAM SMITH MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. First Class Baby strikes a very winnable race and she appreciated the step up in distance when runner-up at Queanbeyan two weeks ago when supported at odds. If she can replicate that effort she has a good chance to improve.

Dangers: 3. Time For Snow was a drifter in betting when he resumed at Gundagai and made some ground from well back. Contested the Black Opal last prep and the rise in trip looks to be in his favour. Chance to improve sharply. 2. Gunfighter Road is a big market watch given he’s had the one trial and didn’t beat one home at Moruya earlier in the week. Won’t need to be a star to be competitive. 7. Rawano is yet to place in 13 starts and was $201 when fifth at Nowra a few weeks ago. Minor claims.

How to play it: First Class Baby WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:35PM FIX AUTO SHOALHAVEN BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

5. Wal’s Angels was right in the market first-up at Goulburn and did a good job running second on a heavy track. Better for the run and a better surface will assist, stepping up in trip another plus. Does look particularly hard to beat.

Dangers: 7. Acheson is coming back from two starts at the mile where he’s finished just behind the placings and draws to get the run of the race. Good enough on his day and has to be respected. 8. Artifactx was safely held by the winner but otherwise did quite a good job to run second when resuming here earlier this month. Only win to date is at 1400m and stays under notice. 6. A Book Of Days has been racing on heavy tracks of late and been performing consistently without winning. Drifter when he led and boxed on for third at Goulburn last week. Has a show.

How to play it: Wal’s Angels WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:15PM JIM'S BLINDS SHUTTERS & AWNINGS BM58 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

8. Sweet Warrior was responsible for a handy effort on debut when holding her ground on the inside and fighting off the challengers over the 1000m at Canberra two weeks ago. Stays down in the weights and draws to get some cover. No surprise if she measures up again.

Dangers: 2. Xanadu Miss is lightly raced and can forgive her failure in a Highway at Randwick last month on a heavy 10. Did run fourth in a Class 3 Highway behind Without Parallel prior to that and a better track looks a plus. Go well. 3. Chilli Crab lifted sharply second-up when favourite and leading all the way at Queanbeyan to post her first win. Barrier against her this time but hard to leave out. 4. Pretty Cheeky is also a last start Queanbeyan winner, some 11 months agio, and fitter for two recent trials at Rosehill. One tom keep an eye on, could get an easy run in transit.

How to play it: Sweet Warrior WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:50PM NOWRA FLOOR WORLD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Shalaa Jet was a winner at Wyong three runs back and tried hard when runner-up at Queanbeyan over the mile. Settled off the pace there and ran on. Slightly tricky draw but down in class and should be around the mark again.

Dangers: 2. Mega Fight was outclassed on a heavy track at Kensington a few weeks back but previous efforts in this sort of company were honest enough. Has a good record at this track and drawn to effect. 4. Geostorm is lining up for his 80th start and comes off an all the way win at Nowra a few weeks ago. In form at present and hard to leave out of the chances. 5. Jalmari found his form again with a heavy track win over this track and distance in similar class. Perhaps he needs it to stay wet but he could hold some form now.

How to play it: Shalaa Jet EACH-WAY ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:25PM KIMBERLIE & CO F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

2. La Nina is another Sydney trial winner, she scored at Rosehill on September 9 in good style in her second hitout. Given plenty of time and well worth respecting.

Dangers: 11. Percolate had some support at her first run at Hawkesbury two weeks ago and showed some speed before weakening into fourth. Might be better for the run and is open to improvement. 9. Miss Fleetwood has been a little disappointing to date though did improve slightly when fourth at Scone last time out. Perhaps the rise to 1200m helps. 1. Dodgy Freckle has shown glimpses and resumes after a placing at Bathurst on Anzac Day. Gets in well with the claim and can show up.

How to play it: La Nina WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).
